A plastic kit of the historical field gun known as the Napoleon in 1:18 scale from Smer. The model captures a smoothbore muzzle-loading gun on a wooden carriage with large spoked wheels - one of the best known field guns of the 19th century. The kit is undemanding and suits an introduction to model building and to the history of artillery as well.
The Napoleon nickname belonged to the celebrated smoothbore muzzle-loading field gun of the middle of the 19th century, which was used in large numbers for its reliability and simplicity. The gun was loaded through the muzzle of the barrel, rested on a massive wooden carriage and was moved on large spoked wheels; solid shot, explosive shells and canister were fired from it. Its durable metal barrel was easy for the crew to handle in the field.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and clean the joints up. Painting by material will help the result look convincing: paint the carriage and the wheels in shades of wood and pick them out with a wash to bring out the grain, darken the ironwork and the wheel hubs with metal or black shades and finish the barrel in bronze. A fine dry brush and weathering will emphasize the detail and the wear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
