About product

Boeing Chinook HC.1 (Late) — 1:72

This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale represents the late version of the British heavy helicopter Boeing Chinook under the designation HC.1, as it served with the Royal Air Force. The model is supplied as an unassembled and unpainted kit; the exact contents of the package and the choice of marking options are given on the packaging and in the instructions.

The real subject

The Chinook is a twin-rotor helicopter with a tandem layout of two counter-rotating main rotors, thanks to which it needs no tail rotor and offers exceptional lifting capacity. The British HC.1 version entered service with the Royal Air Force in the early 1980s and was derived from the American CH-47 series. The machine is powered by two Lycoming T55 turboshaft engines mounted on the sides of the rear end. The late appearance reflects the later production and service condition of the Royal Air Force machines with updated features compared with the first examples. The Chinook proved itself as a workhorse for carrying troops, materiel and underslung loads, and the British machines wrote themselves into a number of operations.

Building and painting tips

For the joints between the plastic parts use a thin modeling cement, which flows into the seams by capillary action. Apply a primer before painting so that the paint holds well and the details stand out. It is worth masking the large glazed areas of the cockpit before spraying. The complex shapes of the fuselage and the rotor heads come out well once a dark wash has been applied to the panel lines together with a fine dry-brushed finish.

Who the model is for

  • builders working in the popular 1:72 aircraft scale
  • more experienced beginners and advanced modelers alike

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
