The release is extended with photo-etched parts, which in this small scale make it possible to model features that cannot be made thin enough in plastic. The key distinguishing feature is the rotating GPK gunner's turret with armored protection for the gunner. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The M1114 is the armored version of the well-known American multi-purpose cross-country vehicle. It came about in response to deployment in a setting where the crews were threatened by gunfire and by booby-trap devices, and it was therefore given heavier armor for the cab, a strengthened chassis and a more powerful powertrain. The GPK structure, that is the armored protection for the gunner on the roof, shields the gun crew from the sides while leaving them an all-round view. The vehicle in this form is a typical image of American units of the last two decades.
In 1:72 the parts are very small, so work with tweezers and cut them off only just before gluing. Finish the chassis and the interior of the cab before you close the body up. Cut the photo-etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and degrease and prime them before painting. Sand and khaki shades look flat, so with modern equipment color modulation, a dark wash into the hollows and dry-brushing on the edges pay off. Build mud and dust effects with pigments from the bottom upward, so that a logical transition is kept. Watch the size of the weathering elements, as in a small scale it is easily overdone.
