A set of metal railing for N scale, that is 1:160. The name gives sixty posts, so it will do even for a longer run. Metal has one great advantage over plastic: a thin section stays thin. Railing around a meter high in reality works out at roughly six millimeters in this scale, and at that size every unnecessary tenth of a millimeter shows on a model.
On the edge of a platform, on a bridge and a footbridge, by stairs, on a ramp, along a retaining wall, on platforms in an industrial yard and on the terrace of a building. Railing belongs among the elements that give a scene scale: as soon as it is somewhere it would have to be in reality, a layout starts to look inhabited.
First draw or mark the line of the railing out with a fine pencil, so that it runs straight. Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the point of separation. Glue metal with cyanoacrylate glue applied in drops; glue for plastic does not hold on it. The posts have to stand upright; a leaning post shows at once in a row, so check the first few pieces from the side and from above. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and apply a primer, otherwise the paint will come off when it is handled. Finally it pays to go lightly over the railing with a dry brush and dust the lower part with pigment, so that it does not look new.
The package holds railing in the extent stated in the name. A base, buildings, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
