In N and Z scales considerably more landscape fits into the same area than in H0, and that is why the texture of surfaces is what holds the impression together. A construction board with a finished relief brings this texture in one step and in a fineness that handwork in such a small scale would manage only with difficulty.
The package holds two boards measuring 28 x 14 centimeters. The relief corresponds to N and Z scales, that is 1:160 and 1:220. The length of one board stands in N scale for roughly forty-five meters of a real building and in Z scale for over sixty meters. A pair of boards will therefore cover even a large area and part of the material will be left in reserve for accessories.
First just lay the boards on the base and turn them so that the texture carries over the joint; only then fix them. The joint can be hidden behind an upright edge of a building, behind greenery or in shadow. Apply paint in thin coats, otherwise the fine relief will be flooded and the area will stay smooth. An overall base tone works well, after it has dried a darker glaze into the hollows and a light pass with a dry brush over the edges at the end. In a small scale choose the contrast more carefully than in H0, because joints that are too dark look like dirt from a distance. The way of dividing and fixing them follows the manufacturer's instructions.
The boards suit builders of layouts and dioramas in N and Z scale who want a faithful texture of areas without fine handwork.
