1:48 R-11 USAF / NATO Fuel Truck is a plastic kit of the airfield tanker used by the US Air Force and other NATO armed forces. It is issued by Kinetic.
Responsibility details are not available.
This model does not belong among combat equipment but among the airfield support vehicles no base can do without. Kinetic has done it in 1:48 scale, so you can build it right beside fighters of the same scale and end up with a finished ramp scene. The kit offers well worked out axle suspension, an engine hood molded in one piece with a slide mold, cab detail and an openable panel for the refueling station. According to the manufacturer's data a transport trolley is included in the box as well.
The R-11 is an articulated aviation tanker meant to refuel aircraft directly on the ramp. It is powered by a six-cylinder turbocharged liquid-cooled engine and the machine was designed to handle quick turnarounds even in demanding climates. Vehicles of this type accompanied American and allied air forces on operations in the Middle East and in Central Asia and are still standard base equipment.
The large smooth surface of the tank is unforgiving of any unevenness, so fill and sand the seams after gluing before you reach for the base coat. A high-visibility finish is typical of airfield vehicles, so apply the yellow and white shades over a light base, otherwise they will not cover. Do not forget the traffic markings and warning lettering: they are exactly what makes this kind of equipment recognizable. Keep the weathering restrained - it is a working vehicle, not combat equipment in the field.
The tanker comes as an unassembled kit without a finish; glue and paints are not included.
