IDF Gray2 1981 Golan

The color

C529 is a shade from the Mr.Color range intended for models of Israeli military equipment. The designation IDF Gray 2 with its reference to the year 1981 and the Golan Heights aims at the gray finish of Israeli vehicles of that period. On the real machines the resulting tone differed according to the production batch, according to the layer of dust and above all according to how long the vehicle had stood in the sun, so take the shade as a starting point, not as a fixed value.

How to work with the paint

Shake the pot thoroughly before use, the pigment settles at the bottom. Use the thinner the manufacturer specifies for this range and keep to the thinning ratio given in the instructions on the packaging. The best result comes from spraying with an airbrush in several light coats; a single thick coat clogs fine detail and dries less well. For work with a brush, prepare a smaller quantity of paint and proceed briskly, so that the strokes have time to merge.

Where you will use it

The single-color finish of Israeli equipment is a challenge for a modeler. A large area of a single shade needs shading, otherwise the model reads flatly. It has proved worthwhile to lighten the basic tone slightly in the middle of large surfaces and to darken it where the light does not reach, that is, under the fenders and in the recesses of the superstructures. Dust and dry earth come into play only on a dried and matted surface.
