A trio of oil paints in a green range, each bottle ten milliliters and with a fine applicator brush in the cap.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set brings together three oil paints pitched towards green: a lighter tone for robotic structures, a saturated green with a hint of plant sap and a dark variant for shadows. Together they form a coherent range in which the modulation of a whole area of armor can be built from the highest edges right down to the shaded corners under the joints.
Each bottle holds ten milliliters of paint and a fine brush is built into the cap. That brush is fundamental to the way of working, because the paint is not applied over an area: it is dotted on, drawn into stripes and then blended out with a clean brush dampened with thinner. Oil dries slowly, so there is plenty of time for the blending and a mistake can be wiped away at any moment without the layer underneath suffering.
The most usual procedure goes through three steps. The darkest shade is drawn into the panel lines and to the edges of the parts, the middle tone serves as a filter that unifies the base color, and the lightest is dotted onto the surfaces facing upwards so that the model keeps a sculptural depth even under even lighting. At the end a matte varnish is all it takes and the transitions settle down.
The surface underneath should be a sealed varnished one, ideally gloss or satin. On a flat layer the oil takes unevenly and the blending then leaves marks that are hard to put right. Anyone building a robotic model with large smooth areas will appreciate that the green range can be combined with rust and dust tones and thereby move from a freshly built machine to a structure that has been in service for several years.
