An AK Interactive modeling paint from the Real Colors range in the shade RAF Dark Slate Grey, the dark gray-green of maritime camouflage. A 17 ml bottle.
Responsibility details are not available.
Dark Slate Grey is a dark gray with a green cast that the Royal Air Force used in the camouflage of machines operating over the sea. On the upper surfaces it formed a pair with a darker gray and was sprayed on Coastal Command aircraft and on the carrier aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm. The transition between the two tones tends to be soft, so on a model it reads more like one shifting area than sharply separated fields.
The shade belongs on the upper surfaces of British maritime and coastal aircraft, that is on patrol, torpedo and carrier types. It also comes into its own elsewhere, wherever a dark gray shifted toward green is needed that a plain dark gray cannot replace. The other half of the camouflage and the light lower surfaces are available in the same range.
Before use the bottle has to be stirred thoroughly, because the pigment settles to the bottom. The paint is applied in several thin coats onto a degreased, dust-free surface, ideally over a primer that evens out the absorbency of plastic, filler and accessories. Thinning, spraying pressure and the cleaning of tools follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging; use a thinner recommended for this range. With dark shades a final brightening of the middle of the areas pays off, or the model looks flat and loses its volume.
The paint alone is supplied, in a bottle of 17 ml. A thinner, a primer, a final varnish and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
