RAF DARK SLATE GREY – AIR

RAF Dark Slate Grey – AIR (AK Interactive, acrylic 17 ml)

A paint from the 3rd Generation Acrylics AIR range for aircraft models. It is a water-thinnable acrylic in a 17 ml dropper bottle. Dark Slate Grey is a deep dark green-gray, one of the shades of British naval camouflage. The paint sprays like a lacquer, is thinned with water or acrylic thinner and is non-toxic and non-flammable.

The history and use of the shade

Dark Slate Grey, together with the dark sea gray, made up the upper surfaces of the Temperate Sea Scheme — the camouflage of coastal, patrol and naval aircraft. It appeared on the machines of Coastal Command and of the Fleet Air Arm that operated over the sea. The greenish cast sets this shade apart from the purely gray tones.

Use and thinning

• Applied with a brush or an airbrush, from the bottle or thinned with water.
• It is thinned with water or acrylic thinner, never with lacquer or nitro thinner.
• Self-leveling, fast drying, with minimal drying on the nozzle.
• Ideal for two-color upper surfaces in combination with the dark sea gray.

Who it is for

For modelers of British naval and coastal aircraft who want a faithful Temperate Sea Scheme shade.

A water-thinnable acrylic, non-toxic and non-flammable. Even so, work in a ventilated room and use extraction when airbrushing.
