About product

STREAKINGBRUSHER COLD DIRTY GREY: cold dirty gray from AMMO of Mig Jimenez

STREAKINGBRUSHER COLD DIRTY GREY is an enamel, solvent-based weathering product that dries matte, in a 10 ml bottle with an applicator brush in the cap. It is a modeling chemical product, not a kit. The shade is a cold dirty gray leaning towards blue and green, the color of ingrained damp and rain-borne dirt.

What streaking is and why the warmth of the shade matters

Streaking means the vertical traces of running grime, dried water, oil and dirt down the sides of equipment, under rivets, around hatches, below exhausts. The choice between a cold and a warm gray is decisive: a cold tone (towards blue and green) says that the equipment worked in damp, cold surroundings, in rain, by the sea, in winter mud, on concrete. The warm variant (the separate shade WARM DIRTY GREY, towards brown) evokes dry dust and desert. The choice of shade decides whether a model reads as coming from the desert or from rainy Europe.

Use

  • Work on a fully cured varnished surface.
  • Lay down vertical strokes from top to bottom: with a damp-weather shade choose long, continuous and thin lines imitating the paths of water running from horizontal edges and hatches.
  • Let it become tacky for a while, then draw a clean brush moistened with enamel thinner from top to bottom. For faded water stains blend the trace out almost dry, almost to nothing; for fresh rain leave it more legible.
  • Work in layers: two light ones are more faithful than one heavy one.
  • The brush in the cap means it is applied directly, with no palette and no mixing.

Who it is for

For modelers of ships, of vehicles on the autumn and winter front and of urban dioramas with concrete. For dust and dry conditions, reach for the warm dirty gray.

Safety: it contains flammable organic solvents. Work in a well-ventilated area, away from open flame. Do not inhale the fumes and protect your airways, your skin (gloves) and your eyes. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

The cold gray (towards blue and green) belongs on equipment from damp and cold surroundings: rain, the sea, winter mud, concrete. The warm gray (the separate shade WARM DIRTY GREY, towards brown and beige) belongs in dry, dusty conditions: desert, steppe, earth roads. This choice decides whether a model reads as coming from the desert or from rainy Europe.

Lay down a thin vertical line, let it become tacky and then blend it out with a clean brush and thinner, very dry, almost to nothing. Fresh rain, by contrast, is left more legible.

To a fully cured varnished surface. The thinner used in blending could attack fresh or soft paint, so let the base dry perfectly.

No. It is a modeling chemical product, an enamel weathering effect for weathering models that have already been built and varnished.
