Decals for little-known units of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy air services, the sixth part of the series, 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Most publications on Japanese aviation of the Second World War stick to the combat formations over the Pacific. The series this sheet belongs to aims elsewhere: it gathers the markings of units that do not usually make it into the surveys. The sixth part is devoted to the naval training groups, called kokutai in Japanese, whose aircraft carried conspicuous stripes and numbers to make identification over the training area easier.
The finishes of training aircraft tended to be more colorful than those of frontline units. Orange areas, contrasting stripes on the fuselage and large numerical codes on the vertical tail give a model a quite different face from the standard green finish. For a modeler that means a chance to build a well-known type in a form you will hardly ever meet at a show.
The sheet is printed in 1:72 scale. Before application the surface needs gloss varnish, because a matte surface under a decal creates a white veil. Cut the motif out as close to the artwork as possible, soak it in clean water and let it stand until the backing comes free. A decal softener will help the decal settle into the panel lines and around the canopy. Once dry, overcoat the whole model with a matte or satin varnish, which will hide the edges.
