An accessory resin set of wheels for building a model of the single-seat Sukhoi Su-9 fighter in 1:72 scale. It replaces the wheels from a plastic kit with parts of more accurate shape, with a fine tread and with no mold seam. It is neither a model of the aircraft nor a substantial part of one — the base kit has to be obtained separately. The number of parts in the package is given on the box of the set.
The Su-9 was a Soviet single-engine fighter with a delta wing and a circular nose intake with a central cone, brought into service at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. Its design followed the emphasis of the time on high speed and rate of climb. The landing gear is of the nose-wheel type, retractable, with fairly small wheels on which any simplification of the hub shape shows up quickly on a model.
With resin, surface preparation is decisive. First wash the castings in warm water with detergent and a soft brush to remove the mold release agent, and let them dry thoroughly — moisture under the paint causes stains. Then apply a thin coat of primer; without it, paint rubs off smooth resin during ordinary handling, and on wheels, which get touched often, that goes double. Cut the casting block off with a fine-toothed saw and level the face on abrasive paper laid on a flat surface. It is bonded with super glue; wipe off any excess immediately, because dried cyanoacrylate leaves a white haze on the surface.
This is an accessory, not a complete kit. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package.
