The Vickers K was a British aircraft machine gun of 7.7 millimeter caliber with a striking drum magazine above the body of the weapon. It was marked by a high rate of fire and was operated by hand, so it suited open gun positions where the gunner swung the weapon himself. The Westland Lysander was a British army cooperation aircraft with a high-set wing which carried an observer in the rear part of the glazed cabin. It is precisely its rear gun position that this set is aimed at.
It is a printed part of the weapon on a single mount in 1:48 scale, that is one gun on a mount, not a twin installation. Printing allows a finer breakdown than injection molded plastic, so the cooling jacket, the magazine and the grips come out more sharply than on the part from the kit. The set is listed as an accessory to the model of the Lysander in the Mk.I and Mk.III versions from Airfix, so with other kits you have to count on adjusting the seating.
The parts are not polystyrene and are bonded with super glue. Cut them away from the print supports with a sharp blade a little away from the part, sand the remainder of the support down carefully and smooth the area, so that no bumps are left. Before painting, wash and degrease the whole part, or the paint will hold badly. A dark metallic shade works well, with a light brightening of the edges with a dry brush once dry and a darker, deeper cast on the cooling jacket.
The package contains the accessory part stated. The kit of the aircraft, paints, glue and decals are not included, unless stated otherwise.
