The real subject

The car was built by the British Surtees team, founded by John Surtees, to this day the only man who became world champion both on a motorcycle and in Formula 1. The TS16 type was the team car of the 1974 season, when it was driven by Jochen Mass and Derek Bell among others. It was powered by the classic three-liter Ford-Cosworth DFV eight-cylinder, which at that time was the mainstay of most of the starting field. The TS16 represents the era of slender single-seaters with open wheels and a front and rear wing, when results were decided by details of aerodynamics and by reliability.

Building and painting tips

Glue the small parts with thin cement for plastic and sand the joints carefully, as in a small scale every unevenness shows. Spray the body with an airbrush, for the period livery apply gloss varnish before the decals and fix the decals with a softener so that they settle into the shapes of the body. Paint and assemble the cockpit and the engine before you close the body up, and fine-tune the small chrome and metal elements (the exhausts, the suspension and the radiators) with a brush and pigments.
