The real subject

The Tyrrell P34 was one of the most original cars in the history of Formula 1: instead of four wheels it had six. The pair of small front wheels was meant to reduce frontal drag and increase the contact patch of the tires with the road, which was to improve braking and cornering. The car was powered by the proven Ford-Cosworth DFV eight-cylinder engine, and in the 1976 season the Tyrrell team even won the Swedish Grand Prix with it, the only victory by a six-wheeled car in the history of Formula 1. The P34-2 version represents the developed car raced in the 1977 season, by which time the design was running into the limits of development of the small front tires.

Building and painting tips

Glue the small parts with liquid cement for plastic and sand the joints carefully, as every imperfection shows in 1:32 scale. Spray the body with an airbrush, apply gloss varnish before the decals and settle the decals with a softener. Assemble the cockpit and the exposed suspension of all six wheels with particular care; the four-wheel front axle is the visual centerpiece of the model and will draw the eye on display.
