An injection-molded plastic kit of the German fighter Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-2 in 1:48 scale from Eduard, released in the Weekend edition. Weekend is a simplified boxing: unlike the ProfiPACK edition it contains no photo-etched parts and no painting masks and offers a narrower choice of decal schemes, while the plastic itself remains just as good. The package contains plastic sprues and decals for several marking options; check the exact contents of the sheet against the manufacturer's part number.

The real subject

The Bf 109 F, nicknamed the Friedrich, was the aerodynamically refined version of the famous Messerschmitt. Compared with the older series it received rounded wingtips, a cleaner engine cowling and better flying qualities. The F-2 version was powered by the inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine and was armed with a combination of machine guns and an axial cannon firing through the propeller hub. The Friedrich formed the backbone of the Luftwaffe fighter force in 1941 and 1942.

Building and painting tips

Glue the parts with a thin cement for plastic and sand the joints carefully. Paint the cockpit and pick it out before closing the fuselage up. Early Friedrichs carried camouflage in gray shades with mottling on the sides of the fuselage; after applying a gloss coat and the decals, pick out the panel lines with a wash and add fine wear.
