This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from Zvezda brings a modern rendering of the Soviet Ilyushin Il-2 ground-attack aircraft. The modern tooling stands out for a large number of parts, a well worked-out cockpit and openable bomb bays in the wings with their load. Fine surface detail and accurate panels make the model a rewarding build in a very popular scale.
The Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik was one of the most numerously built combat aircraft in history and the key Soviet ground-attack machine of the Second World War. Its armored structure protected the pilot and the engine and the machine became the terror of ground targets. Its armament consisted of cannons, machine guns, bombs and unguided rockets, which earned it the nickname the flying tank.
Apply thin cement sparingly and dry-fit the joints of the fuselage and the wings. Finish and paint the cockpit and the bomb bays before closing them up. A base coat and matte shades suit the Soviet scheme; the wear of an armored machine is picked out with chipped paint, washes and fine pigments. Even coats are best laid on with an airbrush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
