The new-tool 1:48 MiG-21 MF Fishbed J from Rye Field Model brings the most widely exported version of the Soviet fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
Rye Field Model, until now known above all for models of armored vehicles, opens its aircraft range with this kit. The subject is the most widely exported version of the MiG-21, called Fishbed-J under the NATO reporting name.
The MF version received a more powerful engine and a twin-barrel cannon built in under the fuselage, so it combined performance with the fixed gun armament that earlier versions had lacked. It was produced from the start of the nineteen-seventies and flew with dozens of air forces from Central Europe through Africa to Southeast Asia. This small delta-wing aircraft became a symbol of the fighter aviation of the Eastern Bloc, and a number of machines stayed in service long after 1990.
On this type the cockpit with its ejection seat makes up a large part of the final impression, so finish and mask it before the painting begins. The nose air intake with its movable shock cone calls for careful fitting and a smooth inner surface. Silver and light gray finishes reveal every irregularity, so thorough sanding and a filler primer pay off before they go on.
In the box you will find the parts on their sprues, not a finished model; the painting and the assembly are up to the modeler.
