An injection-molded plastic kit of the famous ship Razor Crest in 1:72 scale from Revell. The package contains around a hundred parts (including a separate sprue with clear parts), a pilot figure for the cockpit, a stand for displaying the ship in flight and a sheet of waterslide decals with a wealth of maintenance and technical markings. The kit offers several build options: the entry door and the large rear cargo ramp can be built open (with a view inside) or closed, and the massive landing legs either extended (onto a base or into a diorama) or retracted into the flight position. It is a classic kit that is glued and painted, not an easy-click set.
The Razor Crest is the ship of the hero of the series The Mandalorian — a bounty hunter working machine, not a shiny space yacht. It is an older, rugged craft with a roomy cargo hold and cells for prisoners: exactly what a man needs who feeds himself and his passengers by carrying his catch across the galaxy. Its character comes precisely from wear: battered armor, chipped paint, soot around the thrusters, rust and the ever-present dirt that nobody has time to wash off. This shabby look is part of the identity of the ship and of the whole used-hardware aesthetic that Star Wars made famous.
The kit is glued — use thin cement for plastic and attach the clear cockpit part with a glue that does not fog clear plastics. Paint the pilot figure and the cockpit interior before you close the hull. And above all: on the Razor Crest weathering is desirable, not optional. Where dirt would make no sense on a shiny sports car, here it is the other way round: a clean, glossy model would look wrong. So it pays to go at the patina in full: washes to bring out the panel lines, chipping with a sponge or with the salt mask technique on the edges and exposed places, rust and oil streaks running down the sides, pigments and soot around the thrusters and the landing gear. Prepare the base with a primer and apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats — the patina then settles all the better. That is exactly why the Razor Crest is an ideal model on which to learn weathering: mistakes are not hidden here, they turn into character.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
