Markings of Axis aircraft over Malta are offered by the sheet 1:72 The Battle for Malta Axis from the British maker Xtradecal, meant for models in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set of decals from Xtradecal is aimed at the opponents of the British defense, that is at the Italian and German units operating from Sicily. It is a printed film that the modeler transfers onto an already finished and painted model.
The first blows were led by the Regia Aeronautica, which deployed Savoia-Marchetti bombers and Macchi fighters. From the end of 1940 the Luftwaffe joined in, first with Junkers Ju 87 dive bombers and later with Ju 88 bombers and Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighters. The effort peaked in the first months of 1942, when the Axis formations held superiority over the island and the Maltese harbors were wrecked. Typical of the machines of that time are sandy and Mediterranean shades completed by a white band around the rear fuselage and yellow areas, which served for quick recognition over the sea.
Prepare the surface with gloss varnish, otherwise a matte shadow will appear around every marking. Separate the film as close to the printing as possible, move it into place once it has been soaked and blot the excess water off with a soft cloth. On Italian mottled camouflage it pays to reach for a stronger softener, because the surface tends to be broken and the marking has to settle onto it completely.
