31 Fiery red

Revell Email Color 31 Fiery red — gloss fiery red

Shade number 31 from the Email Color range from Revell is a synthetic solvent-based enamel paint (it is not an acrylic) in a gloss finish, matching the shade RAL 3000. The bottle holds 14 ml. It is a modeling paint, not a kit — you are not buying a model but the paint to finish one. The paint does not attack plastic and once dry it forms a smooth, glossy and durable film, which suits car bodies best of all. It is thinned with Revell Color Mix thinner or mineral spirits, never with water. The longer drying time compared with acrylics is an advantage here: the paint has time to level itself out and the finish is left without brush marks.

Important about red: like yellow, red pigment also has poorer covering power. On dark plastic or a gray primer it looks muddy and turns brownish. So apply it over a light base, a white primer (for the most vivid, racing tone), or over a light pink base. The resulting red will then be saturated and clean.

• Civilian cars — classic and modern cars with a gloss body, where the gloss of an enamel is a great advantage.

• Details — small markings, warning stripes, panels and interior accents.

Who it is for

For modelers of cars, motorcycles and emergency or civilian vehicles who want a gloss finish without spraying an extra gloss clear coat over it. It goes on with a brush as well as an airbrush. When spraying, work in thin coats over a light base; when brushing, let the first coat dry thoroughly, otherwise the second stroke will smear it. A gloss surface is at the same time an ideal base under decals with sponsor markings.

Caution: a flammable solvent-based liquid. The vapors irritate the airways — work in a well-ventilated area, away from open flame. Use respiratory protection (a respirator) when spraying with an airbrush. Keep out of the reach of children.
