35 Flesh is the flesh tone of the Revell Email Color range. It is a synthetic enamel (solvent-based) paint, not an acrylic. The tinlet holds 14 ml and the sheen level is flat, which is ideal for skin, because a figure must not shine like plastic. It is thinned with Revell Color Mix or mineral spirits, not with water. The paint does not damage the surface of polystyrene, so it also suits small and finely detailed parts. Note: this product is a modeling paint, not a kit.
Pure flesh paint laid down in a single flat coat looks flat and unconvincing and the face disappears. Realism comes from shading: over the base coat lay a darker glaze into the recesses (eye sockets, under the nose, between the fingers, under the chin) and a lighter tone on the raised areas (forehead, nose, cheekbones, backs of the hands). Blend the transitions with an almost dry brush so that they are not hard edged.
Stir the paint thoroughly all the way to the bottom, paint in thin coats and take your time, because enamel dries more slowly than acrylic, which helps when blending transitions. Full curing takes about a day, and only then is it worth sealing the surface with a varnish.
Safety: flammable liquid, and the vapors irritate the airways. Use in a well ventilated space and protect your airways when spraying with an airbrush. Keep out of the reach of children and away from open flames.
