Revell 40 Black green - Matte Enamel Paint 14 ml

40 Black green is a black green shade from the Revell Email Color range, so dark that on a model it looks almost black, but with a green undertone that takes its hardness away. It is a synthetic enamel (solvent-based) paint, not an acrylic; it is thinned with Revell Color Mix or with mineral spirits, never with water. The volume of the bottle is 14 ml and the degree of sheen is matte. Conversion tables consistently list this shade as the counterpart of the black green tone of German aircraft camouflages (RLM 70). This is a modeling paint, not a kit.

Application tips

Precisely because the shade is so dark, it is a suitable substitute for a pure black everywhere an absolute black would kill the detail and look unnaturally hard. In scale, black looks visually even darker than in reality, so a black green gives a model depth while still letting the engraved lines stand out.

Stir the paint thoroughly and apply it in thin coats, because a dark pigment has strong covering power and likes to flood fine surface detail. You get contrast in dark areas by brightening the centers of panels and with a dry brush on the edges. Overpainting is usually possible after a few hours, and full curing sets in after roughly a day.
