About product

Revell 50 Light blue - synthetic enamel paint, 14 ml

A paint from the Revell Email Color range. It is a synthetic (enamel) solvent-based paint, not an acrylic, so it is not thinned with water but with Revell Color Mix thinner, or with mineral spirits. The tinlet holds 14 ml. It is applied with a brush and with an airbrush, it can be recoated after roughly 4 to 6 hours and it is fully dry after 24 hours. The shade has a gloss finish. As a reminder, this is a modeling paint and not a kit.

What the shade looks like and how it differs

Number 50 is the lightest of Revell's four blues. It is a clean, fairly bright light blue with no gray haze: beside the ultramarine (51) it looks markedly lighter and calmer, against the basic blue (52) it is noticeably lighter and less saturated, and a chasm separates it from the night blue (54). That is exactly why it is the shade you reach for when you need a blue that is meant to glow rather than dominate.

Use

  • Light blue finishes on civilian vehicles: cars, buses, utility vehicles, construction machinery.
  • The undersides of aircraft and surfaces toned toward the sky, where the blue should be light.
  • Sky backgrounds on dioramas, backdrops and light surfaces of interiors.
  • Small accessories, barrels, crates, decoration and recognition stripes.
  • Brightening darker blues when mixing a shade of your own.

Application tips

Light saturated shades cover best over a white or light gray base, so over dark plastic count on more coats. It is better to lay down two or three thin coats than one heavy one, because the enamel then levels the brush strokes itself. For the airbrush, add thinner gradually until the paint has the consistency of thin cream. Clean brushes and the airbrush right after work, because dried enamel can only be removed with difficulty.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who work with enamel paints and are looking for a clean light blue for civilian vehicles, aircraft undersides and accessories. Suitable for brush and airbrush and for beginners and advanced builders alike.

Warning: a flammable liquid. The vapors may irritate the airways and eyes, so work in a well ventilated space and use respiratory protection when spraying. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition.
