52 Blue

Revell 52 Blue - synthetic enamel paint, 14 ml

The classic blue shade of the Revell Email Color range. It is a synthetic enamel paint on a solvent base, so it is not an acrylic and is not thinned with water. Revell Color Mix or mineral spirits serves for thinning. The tinlet holds 14 ml and the finish is gloss. It is applied with a brush and with an airbrush; it can be recoated after roughly 4 to 6 hours and is completely dry after 24 hours. Take note that this is a modeling paint and not a kit.

What the shade looks like and how it differs

Number 52 is the basic, medium blue, exactly what most people picture behind the word blue. It is not as loud as the ultramarine (51), but it is nowhere near as light as Light blue (50). Against the night blue (54) it is incomparably lighter and more legible. It is a universal working shade: a good base, a good color on its own, a good starting point for mixing.

Use

• Bodywork and finishes on civilian vehicles: cars and vans, buses, machinery.
• Naval elements and blue fields on ship models and accessories.
• Colored areas, stripes and recognition markings.
• A base for mixing: adding white gives a lighter blue, adding black a darker one.
• Details and diorama equipment, where an ordinary, neutral blue is needed.

Application tips

Medium and darker shades cover better over a gray or dark base, while light ones cover better over white, so when you build a combination of colors, match the base to it. Stir the paint thoroughly right down to the bottom of the tinlet before use, because the pigment settles. Apply two thin coats rather than one thick one, otherwise the gloss surface will not level. Clean your tools at once.
