About product

Revell 54 Night Blue — Synthetic Enamel Paint, 14 ml

The darkest blue shade in the basic quartet of the Revell Email Color line. This is a solvent-based synthetic enamel paint, not an acrylic — it is not thinned or cleaned with water. Use Revell Color Mix or mineral spirits for thinning. The bottle holds 14 ml, and the finish is gloss. It can be applied with a brush or an airbrush, can be recoated after 4–6 hours, and is fully cured after 24 hours. This is a modeling paint, not a kit.

What color it is and how it differs

Night blue is extremely dark — so dark that on a model it reads as almost black, with the blue only emerging in direct light or along the edge of a shape. That is exactly its purpose: it gives darkness without a dead-looking area. Where pure black would look too harsh and flat, night blue holds depth while keeping details and shadows readable. Compared with the other blues, it is in a category of its own — 50 is light, 52 is medium, 51 is a bold, rich blue; 54 is night.

Use

  • Night and dark camouflage schemes, where the surface should be dark but not black.
  • Dark naval schemes and dark areas on ship models.
  • Deep, near-black car body finishes — a popular choice for vehicles.
  • A substitute for black in shading and pre-shading, where black looks too harsh.
  • Darkening other blues when mixing your own custom shades.

Application tips

Dark, saturated shades cover best over a gray or dark base — on bare white plastic without a base coat, the first layer goes on unevenly. Because the paint is very dark, fine relief gets lost in it, so a subtle edge highlight in a lighter shade or a slightly lighter wash helps. Stir the pigment up from the bottom before use and spray in thin coats.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who need real darkness with a hint of blue — for night schemes, dark naval areas, deep car finishes, and anywhere black would be too much. Suitable for both brush and airbrush.

Warning: flammable liquid. Irritates the airways and eyes — work in a well-ventilated area and use respiratory protection when spraying. Keep out of the reach of children and away from ignition sources.

FAQ

Yes. On a model it reads as almost black, and the blue tone shows mainly in direct light and along edges. It is the darkest blue of the four shades 50, 51, 52 and 54.

Anywhere pure black would look too harsh and swallow the detail — dark finishes, night schemes, shading. Night blue gives darkness while keeping the surface alive.

With Revell Color Mix thinner, or mineral spirits. It is a solvent-based enamel paint, so it cannot be thinned with water.

Dark, saturated shades cover best over a gray or dark base. On bare white plastic we recommend using a base coat first, for even coverage.
