83 Rust

Revell Email Color 83 Rust — rust, matte, 14 ml

Shade number 83 from the Revell Email Color range. This is a modeling paint, not a kit — the package consists of one bottle containing 14 ml. Email Color is a synthetic solvent-based enamel paint (not an acrylic); it does not attack plastic and once dry it holds as a durable film. The gloss level is matte, which is essential with rust — real rust never shines. It is thinned with Revell Color Mix or mineral spirits, never with water.

Use

• Weathering and patina — rusty surfaces, worn and flaked paint, corrosion on edges and welds, rusted-through sheet metal.
• Exhausts, mufflers, engine covers and all heat-stressed parts where paint burns through into rusty tones.
• Worn and withdrawn machinery — wrecks, abandoned machines, agricultural and industrial equipment for dioramas.
• Scene accessories — barrels, rails, barbed wire, sheet metal roofs, old tools.
• The layering technique: rust is not done in one coat. Convincing corrosion comes from layering several shades — a darker brown as the base, with more orange and lighter tones over it, applied by stippling, with a piece of sponge or with an almost dry brush. Irregularity and the difference between dark recesses and lighter blooms are what make the result convincing.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who work on weathering and build dioramas — from military vehicles and aircraft wrecks through ships to railway and industrial scenes. The shades of the range mix with one another, so you can easily mix a whole palette of corrosion tones from rust, from dark brown to light orange.

The paint is a flammable liquid. The vapors irritate the airways — work in a well-ventilated space and use respiratory protection when spraying. Protect it from open flame, keep out of the reach of children and follow the instructions on the packaging.
