The light blue shade of the German aircraft designation RLM 78, used on the undersides of machines deployed in the Mediterranean and in North Africa. A 10 ml package, an acrylic base.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation RLM 78 belonged to the light blue that the Luftwaffe introduced for deployment in Africa and the Mediterranean. It formed the lower half of the so-called tropical scheme and, together with the sand tone of the upper surfaces, gave a machine the look that most modelers today immediately associate with the battlefields of 1941 to 1943. It was carried by Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighters of the later versions, Junkers Ju 87 dive bombers, twin-engine Bf 110s and Ju 88 bombers operating over the northern coast of Africa.
Light blues belong on a model first, because the darker tone of the upper surface covers over them more easily than the other way around. The boundary between the two colors on the real machines was often sprayed freehand, so a soft transition will be more convincing than a sharply masked edge. If you do mask, use a roll of modeling clay or lifted tape so that a blurred edge forms beneath it.
The jar holds 10 ml. The line is thinnable with water, but on a smooth surface the result is usually smoother after thinning with Mr. Color Thinner. Light tones have weaker covering power, so reckon with full coverage coming only after a second or third thin pass. A base coat of Mr. Base White 1000 under the blue helps markedly and saves you one extra coat of paint.
Judge the shade only once it is dry and in daylight, because acrylic tones darken slightly as they dry and look warmer under a light bulb. Try the rest of the spray on an offcut of sprue; it will save you a surprise on a finished airframe.
