About product

Revell masking tape - 10 mm x 10 m

A modeling masking tape 10 mm wide with 10 meters on the roll from Revell. It is used to cover areas cleanly that are to stay untouched while painting. The manufacturer recommends it for painting with a brush, with a spray can and with an airbrush. It is not a model and not an accessory to a model - it is a modeling supply, a consumable for painting.

Why modeling tape and not ordinary paper tape

Ordinary household adhesive tape is unsuitable for models. Its adhesive is too aggressive and on removal it pulls off the paint and the primer you laid down with such effort. Modeling tape has a lower, controlled tack - it grips enough to keep paint from creeping underneath, yet it comes off cleanly, with no adhesive residue and no damage to the surface below. The second difference is the edge: modeling tape is cut crisply and straight, so the transition between two colors is a clean line rather than a ragged border.

What the 10 mm width is particularly good for

  • A narrower strip bends into curves more easily - engine cowlings, fenders, leading edges, round details.
  • Precise masking of smaller parts and narrow edges, where a wide tape would overhang.
  • Running the dividing line on camouflage and two-tone schemes - you outline the edge with this tape and cover the rest of the area with whatever else you have to hand.
  • Covering the canopy and cockpit glazing of smaller models.
  • It tears and cuts easily into shorter pieces without fraying.

Usage tips

Stretch the tape lightly around curves and press it down as you go - the inner side gathers slightly, but the edge stays straight. Always press down firmly on the edge where the color transition will run. Spray thinly and straight on, not at a sharp angle in under the tape. Take it off before the paint has fully cured and pull it back over itself at a shallow angle.

Who the tape is for

  • Modelers building smaller scales and intricate shapes.
  • Those who mask camouflage transitions and rounded parts.
  • Beginners who need a reliable, easily managed basis.

FAQ

In width, and in what you can do with it. Ten millimeters is a narrower strip that bends into curves more easily and sits precisely on smaller parts and narrow edges. A wide tape, by contrast, is quicker on large flat areas. In practice the two are often combined: the narrow one runs the edge and the wide one covers the rest.

Used correctly, no - it has a low, controlled tack precisely so that it can be taken off cleanly. Let the paint dry at least to the touch and pull the tape back over itself at a shallow angle, not straight up.

With both. The manufacturer recommends it for painting with a brush, with a spray can and with an airbrush. With a spray can, just take care not to spray at an angle in under the edge of the tape.

No. It is a modeling supply - a consumable for painting. It has no scale and is not tied to any particular model.
