Rough White Pumice

Vallejo Rough White Pumice — a coarse texture for rubble and crushed stone

The essential difference from a paint: this paste contains a filler. Once it has dried, a pronounced grainy texture stays on the surface that at model scale reads as gravel, crushed stone, concrete debris or broken plaster. The color of the compound is light and serves as a neutral base for later painting, not as the final shade.

Use

• spread it with a spatula in an irregular layer, as a coarse texture should not look smoothed out
• thin the layer out at the edges, since a sharp transition between the terrain and the base gives away where the paste ends
• you can color the paste right in the pot with a little acrylic paint or a pigment, and the result then looks more natural than a repainted surface
• press larger stones, debris or remains of structures into the fresh layer, where they hold firmly once it has dried
• a coarse surface takes drybrushing superbly: run a lighter tone over it and the edges will stand out
• a dark wash runs in between the grains and gives a depth that paint alone will not create

For builders of scenes with ruined buildings, quarries and stony terrain where a crumbling surface is needed, and for modelers who want a base with more pronounced texture than a smooth board. It also suits small areas, such as a heap of rubble by a vehicle's track or the crumbling rim of a crater.

A water-based acrylic compound with a filler. Clean the tools with water immediately after work. Close the container thoroughly, as otherwise the paste hardens in the air. It does not belong in the hands of small children or in the mouth; store it away from frost.
