What the sheets are for

The floor decides whether a scene looks like a piece of a real interior or like a model built on a board. Tiles have a regular grid that the eye reads at once as something built by people, and at the same time they give the scene scale: from the size of the tiles the viewer judges how big the figure or the vehicle standing on them is. They come into their own in the interiors of houses and workshops, in station halls, in hangars and in bombed-out ruins where only a strip of floor by the wall is left.

What is in the box

Two sheets of tiled flooring in 1:72 scale. The size of the sheet, the material and the way it is fixed are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging. The line holds several sheets with the same name that differ from each other in their pattern and their coloring.

Usage tips

First cut a template out of paper and test it dry; only then cut the sheet to it. Run the cut along the joint between the tiles, not across them, and the seam will then disappear into the pattern. The base has to be flat, as every unevenness will show through the thin sheet. With irregular room shapes it is easier to lay several smaller pieces than one big one. Use the glue the maker of the sheet recommends and spread it in a thin continuous coat, as islands of glue will create bumps. Before you start weathering the floor, try the procedure on an offcut: not every surface will take water-thinned paints. More dirt belongs in the corners and against the walls than in the middle of the room, and it is precisely that imbalance that makes a floor look worn.
