An injection-molded plastic kit of the American heavy supersonic fighter-bomber Republic F-105G Thunderchief in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. The parts are molded in gray plastic, and the package contains a clear canopy, a detailed cockpit, decals and instructions with color schemes. According to the instructions the kit can be built as the two-seat F-105G version or as the EF-105F.
The F-105 Thunderchief, nicknamed the Thud, was an American heavy supersonic fighter-bomber used above all in the Vietnam War, where it carried the main burden of strike missions. It was a large and fast single-engine aircraft with an internal bomb bay and a heavy load of external stores. The G version was the two-seat specialized Wild Weasel variant, meant to suppress enemy air defenses: it hunted down and destroyed radars and launch sites of surface-to-air missiles (SAM) to clear the way for other aircraft. It carried anti-radiation missiles and special electronic equipment.
Paint and assemble the cockpit and the instrument panels of both seats before the fuselage is closed; once glued there is no getting at them. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic, and mask the clear canopy before spraying. Build and paint the anti-radiation missiles and the other external stores separately and fit them at the end. Apply a primer before painting, spray the camouflage with an airbrush in thin coats and bring out the panel lines with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
