Colored 3D-printed cockpit details for the Japanese carrier-borne torpedo bomber Nakajima B5N2 Kate in 1:48 scale from Quinta Studio. This is not an aircraft model but an upgrade accessory with which you can bring the interior of the plastic B5N2 kit from Hasegawa to life without laborious painting.

What it is and how it works

The details are 3D printed on thin decal backing paper, so they combine relief and color in one. The torpedo-carrying Kate had a long glazed cockpit for a crew of three, so the interior is clearly visible; the set normally contains the instrument panel, the side panels, the controls and the seat belts. They are applied as a wet decal directly onto the plastic parts.

Use

• Made for the Nakajima B5N2 kit in 1:48 (Hasegawa)
• Cut the part out, soak it in lukewarm water for about 15 seconds and slide it off the backing paper
• Degrease the surface and coat it with gloss varnish (Future/Klear, Tamiya X-22); a matte base is a mistake
• Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, the manufacturer forbids them because they attack the printed resin; in broken-up places a drop of super glue helps
