This Thunder Model kit brings the desert patrol truck with its bed set off the center line of the vehicle. This is the standard edition, that is, the basic boxing without extra-cost equipment. The model is meant to be glued together and sprayed.
British patrols operating deep in the North African desert needed vehicles able to cover hundreds of kilometers with no support behind them. Canadian military pattern trucks proved themselves in their chassis as well as in the availability of spare parts. Crews therefore stripped them of doors, roof and windshield and added water tanks, steel channels against bogging down in sand and a sun compass, because a magnetic needle was unreliable near a load of iron. The trucks moved mostly at night and lay camouflaged by day.
Assemble and spray the frame and the drivetrain before you seat the bed on them, because the offset construction will otherwise make access difficult. Distribute the load on the bed with the center of gravity of the vehicle in mind, so that it looks believable. Play the desert shade out with a lighter touch on the horizontal surfaces and with fine dust pigment working up from the wheels.
The model comes as a set of unglued parts with no finish, so tools, fillers and paints have to be obtained separately.
