An injection-molded plastic kit of the German fighter biplane LFG Roland D.VIb of the First World War in 1:72 scale from MAC Distribution. It is a short-run model with fine relief, supplemented by a photo-etched fret and clear film for the glazing. Rigging between the wings is part of the build. Given the character of a short-run tooling, the model is intended rather for more experienced modelers. Glue and paints are not included in the package.
The LFG Roland D.VI was a German fighter biplane developed by Luft-Fahrzeug-Gesellschaft toward the end of the First World War. Characteristic was its clinker-built fuselage of narrow wooden strips. The D.VIb version differed from the D.VIa in the engine used: it was powered by the inline Benz Bz IIIa. Although the Roland D.VI was among the agile and well-built machines, it was rather the Fokker D.VII that won through into large-scale production and the Roland remained in its shadow. It served with the German air service as well as with Imperial German naval aviation in the last year of the war.
A short-run tooling calls for careful clean-up of the parts and a dry test before gluing. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Seat the upper wing precisely on its struts and finish the rigging only after painting. The period fabric and wood come out best after applying a base coat, the camouflage with an airbrush and a fine wash. A matte varnish will unify the model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
