1:16 German Sd.Kfz 184 Ferdinand is a large-format plastic kit of the German heavy tank destroyer in 1:16 scale from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded kit of one of the most massive German fighting vehicles of the Second World War, and in 1:16 scale, which makes the model the centerpiece of a display cabinet. The large scale allows the weld beads, the rivets, the running gear and the intricate walls of the casemate to be shown in a way that smaller scales cannot manage. It is a new tool, not polished-up old tooling.
The Sd.Kfz. 184 Ferdinand came about by converting the chassis that Porsche had built for the unsuccessful VK 45.01(P) heavy tank project. In a reinforced casemate at the rear it received the long 8.8 cm PaK 43/2 L/71 anti-tank gun, one of the most effective anti-tank weapons of the war, able to destroy Soviet tanks at long range. The drive was remarkable: the gasoline engines did not drive the wheels directly but powered generators that fed electric motors. The vehicle was first used at the Battle of Kursk in 1943 and proved a feared but unreliable machine, defenseless in close combat. The rebuilt examples with a machine gun in the front of the hull and a commander's cupola then carried the name Elefant.
Finish and paint the running gear and the interior of the hull before you close the upper parts up. On a vehicle of this size it pays to paint in layers: primer, base shade, lightening of the upper surfaces and only at the end filters and washes. The running gear and the lower part of the hull will take bold mud effects, while the vertical surfaces take only fine dust.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
