A set of tracks in resin intended for large-scale models of the German Pz.Kpfw V Panther tank in 1:16 scale. It is not a tank kit but an accessory for the modeler who wants to replace the tracks from the box with a more accurate form. The track is one of the first places a viewer looks at in 1:16 scale: it is long, it is visible from the side and from above, and any softness of shape shows on it at once. A resin casting allows sharper edges and a finer surface texture than a soft plastic or vinyl track can offer.
The Panther was a very heavy machine for its day and its running gear stood on a wide track with large flat links. The form of the track changed during the war: production was simplified and the shape of the link and the arrangement of the traction features of the later series differed from the early pieces. For a model this is not a detail without significance: the type of track, together with other features, helps to place a particular machine in its period of service, much as the shape of the exhausts or the form of the road wheels does.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap: there tend to be traces of mold release agent on the surface and paint would not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks away with a sharp knife or a fine saw, level the surfaces with abrasive paper and protect your airways while sanding. It is glued with super glue, best only after a dry test of the whole run around the drive sprocket and the idler. Begin the painting with primer, then a dark steel or brownish shade; bring out the contact surfaces of the links and the edges of the traction features with graphite or a metallic pigment and tie the whole together with dust and mud pigments.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
