An injection-molded plastic kit of the American helicopter UH-60 Black Hawk in the MEDEVAC medical-evacuation configuration, in 1:48 scale from ICM. The package contains 342 parts and — which is the entire point of this release — six figures: the helicopter crew and combat medics. It also includes an internal litter support frame, auxiliary fuel tanks, and a detailed interior. As a result, the box yields a scene, not just a static model: the kit is practically a ready-made diorama of a casualty evacuation, with no need to buy extra figure sets. The difficulty suits a more advanced beginner up to an intermediate modeler.
Since the late 1970s, the UH-60 Black Hawk has been the backbone American transport helicopter — a versatile machine for carrying troops and equipment and supporting special operations, which replaced the legendary Huey. MEDEVAC (medical evacuation) is a variant equipped to evacuate the wounded directly from the battlefield: the cabin has a support system for hanging litters, and medics fly on board providing immediate care during the flight. In its standard configuration, the internal litter frame holds roughly four to six lying patients. It is precisely the speed of evacuation — the golden hour between injury and the operating table — that made this role one of the Black Hawk's most important tasks.
Start the build with the interior: the support frame, litters, and interior equipment must be finished and painted before you close the fuselage — you cannot reach inside once it is glued shut. Leave the figures for last and paint them separately, off the model; it pays to pre-shade the faces and hands, since at 1:48 scale a figure is small and will look flat without shading. Glue with liquid plastic cement and use a primer. The dark olive finish of American helicopters easily swallows detail, so highlight the panel lines with a wash and lightly brighten the edges. If you build the model with the side doors open and figures working at the litters, you get a full scene even without a base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
