Airfix offers the off-road truck Bedford MK in the tactical aircraft refueller configuration, that is, a vehicle that delivered fuel right where the equipment was operating. The 1:76 scale matches British modeling tradition and the OO gauge used for model railways, so the truck fits easily into an existing layout.
The Bedford MK series entered British Army service in the early 1970s, replacing older four-wheel trucks. The basis was a versatile flatbed with drive to both axles, on whose chassis specialized bodies were built. The tanker version delivered fuel to helicopters and short-takeoff aircraft away from permanent airfields, that is, in field conditions where mobility is the main advantage. The trucks stayed in service for decades and became as familiar a sight to British units as armored vehicles.
This is one of the simpler kits, and it suits less experienced hands too. Paint the tank and cab separately, and it is worth leaving the grilles and lights until the end. British equipment of the period wore matte green or two-tone camouflage; the hoses, filler nozzle and steps stand out well after a dark wash and light chipping in a metallic shade.
You get the truck as plastic parts to assemble and paint, without glue and without paints.
