About product

Revell 371 Light grey — enamel paint 14 ml

Revell 371 Light grey is a synthetic enamel (solvent-based) paint, not an acrylic. It is supplied in a tin of 14 ml and has a silk matte (satin) degree of sheen — it belongs to the Revell Email 300 series. The paint does not attack modeling plastic, it is applied with a brush and with an airbrush and it is thinned with Revell Color Mix, or with mineral spirits. It is a modeling paint, not a kit.

What color it is and what it serves for

371 is a light gray — the only neutral color in this group, unlike the green shades 361, 362 and 363. It is one of the most versatile tones a modeler can have on the bench. A light neutral gray suits use as a final color (aircraft undersurfaces, naval vessels, concrete areas of dioramas) as well as a working color — a light base under shades that cover badly, or a light coat for modulating areas.

Use

  • Aircraft undersurfaces — the classic place for a light neutral gray.
  • Naval vessels — superstructures, decks, armament, ship equipment.
  • A base under light, yellow and red shades, which cover badly by themselves.
  • Preshading and modulation — a light tone in the centers of areas, darker toward the edges.
  • Concrete areas, panels and buildings in dioramas.

Application tips

Stir the paint right down to the bottom before use. Light grays cover better than rich colors, yet the rule of two thin coats instead of one heavy one still holds — that way you keep the fine relief of panels and rivets. Washes and filters show to advantage over a light gray, so it is a rewarding surface for weathering. Varnish the area with a gloss clear coat under decals — on satin and matte surfaces the edges of decals silver. You set the final matte or satin look with a closing varnish only after the decals.

Who the paint is for

  • Builders of aircraft who need a light gray for undersurfaces.
  • Modelers of ships and naval vessels.
  • Anyone working with preshading, modulation and light base coats.

Safety: flammable. Keep away from sources of ignition. The vapors irritate the respiratory tract — work in a well-ventilated area and use respiratory protection when spraying. Keep out of the reach of children. Keep the container tightly closed.

FAQ

No. Revell Email Color is a synthetic enamel paint on a solvent base. It is thinned with Revell Color Mix or with mineral spirits, not with water.

Silk matte, that is satin. If you need a fully matte surface, go over the model with a matte varnish at the end.

Yes. A light neutral gray is a rewarding base under shades that cover badly and also suits preshading. On plastic we recommend applying a primer first.

The shades of the Revell Email range can be mixed with one another (except the signal colors). A light gray can be used to lighten and soften the other tones.
