A masking set for American national insignia in 1:72 scale, covering the development from the introduction of the star with side bars in 1943 to today's low-contrast form.
Responsibility details are not available.
The American national insignia has changed several times since the Second World War, and this set from Dan models banks on that change. In June 1943 side rectangles were added to the blue circle with the white star, and for a few months the whole was given a red outline border; from September of the same year a blue one replaced it. In 1947 a horizontal red stripe returned to the white bars, and in later decades subdued gray variants, which suggest the insignia rather than show it, took hold on combat machines.
The white area of the star sprayed through a cut-out keeps its tone even on a dark surface and leaves no trace around its perimeter of the kind you can see against the light with a thin film. It will be appreciated above all by anyone who works the surface further, with local matting, a wash or a dry brush. A sprayed area can moreover be sanded without worry into the look of scuffed paint.
The insignia differs in size on the individual types, so a usable set has to contain several size series, not one. It pays off for anyone who builds several American aircraft from different periods and does not want to look for a separate sheet every time.
You will need a well-covering white and blue paint, and with the postwar versions a red one as well, and the willingness to apply it in thin coats. The kit of the aircraft and paints are not part of the delivery.
