378 Dark grey

Revell 378 Dark Grey — Enamel Modeling Paint, 14 ml

Revell 378 Dark Grey is a modeling paint, not a kit. It belongs to the Revell Email Color line, i.e. among the solvent-based synthetic enamel paints — it is not an acrylic. The shade is dark gray (listed by the manufacturer with reference to RAL 7012) and has a satin finish, a gloss level between matte and gloss. The bottle holds 14 ml.

Use

• Modern aircraft camouflage schemes, where dark gray forms the base coat of the upper surfaces.
• Naval equipment — decks, superstructures and gray elements on ship models.
• Landing gear, wheel wells and the undersides of vehicles and aircraft.
• Tires: dark gray reads on a model as more realistic than pure black, which at a small scale looks flat and drawn-on. Rubber, in reality, actually looks like a very dark gray.
• Pre-shading and shading — a darker gray in panel lines, seams and recesses, later covered with a thin layer of the base color.

How to work with the paint

Enamel paints are not thinned with water. For thinning and for airbrushing, use mineral spirits or a thinner designed for Revell enamel paints (Revell Color Mix); the same product cleans brushes and airbrushes. Stir the paint thoroughly before use — the pigment settles to the bottom of the bottle. Apply it in several thin coats rather than one heavy one; enamel dries more slowly than acrylic, but it self-levels brush strokes beautifully and resists abrasion.

For modelers of aircraft, military vehicles and ships who work with classic enamel paints and want a durable finish with a satin gloss. It also suits those who build mainly with acrylics but need one specific shade to round things out.
