A sheet of modeling carving foam 8 mm thick in A4 format. The material is fine and cohesive, so it can be cut with a knife, sanded, engraved with gravers and shaped without crumbling into large beads the way ordinary packaging polystyrene does. The cut stays clean and the edge can still be worked with abrasive paper afterwards. The 8 mm thickness makes the sheet a universal base for lower terrain features, wall facings, paving, sidewalks, stairways or concrete elements; more massive shapes are built up from several layers glued together. The range also includes sheets of other thicknesses and a smaller format, so you can choose according to whether you are building a flat base or a rock.

Use

• Cut with a sharp scalpel or a snap-off knife and change the blade often — a blunt blade tears the foam instead of cutting it.
• Create the texture of rock, plaster or concrete by engraving or by pressing a coarse brush or crumpled aluminum foil into it, and round the edges with abrasive paper.
• Join the layers with PVA glue or with an adhesive intended for foams; aggressive solvent-based adhesives can attack the material.
• Before painting, seal the surface with acrylic filler or a PVA coat — bare foam soaks paint up and solvent-based sprays can damage it.
• Paint with acrylics by brush or with an airbrush; test every new combination of glue, filler and paint on an offcut first.
• Do not throw the offcuts away — small pieces are ideal for rubble, broken masonry and filling under the terrain.
