A plastic kit of the heavy interceptor MiG-31 in 1:72 scale, offered under the MAC Distribution brand. This two-seat, twin-engine giant of Soviet air defense is an impressive subject: even in 1:72 scale it yields a large model that stands out at once in a display case beside ordinary fighters.
The MiG-31, with the NATO reporting name Foxhound, came about as the successor to the MiG-25 for the defense of the vast Soviet airspace. A crew of two, a pair of massive D-30F6 engines and a powerful radar with an electronically steered beam allowed it to track and attack several targets at once, including machines flying far below its own flight level. It entered service at the start of the 1980s and flies to this day in modernized versions.
Try the long joints of the fuselage and the air intakes dry and prepare for fine filling, because on a large model a smooth surface is the foundation. The typical gray scheme will be livened up by shading of the panels and a dark wash in the lines; the massive nozzles will come out in tones of burnt metal. Because of the long nose, consider weight in the front part so that the model stands reliably on its nose gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
