This set from Flyhawk is not a model of the ship but a premium, comprehensive detail set (the Gold Medal edition) for improving a plastic kit of the Japanese battleship Yamashiro in 1:350 scale. It is a multimedia package combining photo-etched parts, resin parts, metal sections, a wooden deck and metal rods, which together bring a very high level of detail. The target kit is the Fujimi 600062.

The real subject

Yamashiro was a Japanese battleship of the Fuso class with main armament of 356 mm caliber. She was deployed in the Pacific and was sunk in 1944 in the Battle of Surigao Strait.

What the set contains and how to use it

• Several frets of photo-etched parts for railings, radars and superstructure
• Resin parts for fine components of the fittings
• Metal parts and turned elements
• A wooden deck and metal rods for a faithful rendering

Building tips

First wash the mold release residue off the resin parts and cut off the casting blocks. Cut and bend the photo-etched parts, and bond everything with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Given its scope, this is demanding work for experienced modelers.
