An add-on set of resin landing gear wheels for the B-29 Superfortress bomber kit in 1:48. It is not an airplane model but a replacement for the wheels from the plastic kit. The tires are cast with a bulge where they touch the ground, so the finished model stands convincingly on the surface. According to the name the set matches the wheels of the mid production series, and photo-etched hubcaps come with it, which have a sharper outline than the plastic parts.
The Boeing B-29 Superfortress was an American four-engined heavy bomber with a pressurized cabin and remotely controlled defensive turrets, used in the closing stage of the Second World War and in Korea. The machine had a nose landing gear and a pair of wheels on each main leg, which carried a large part of the takeoff weight. Details of the hubs, the caps and the tread changed during production, so the wheels are offered in patterns according to the production stage.
Wash the resin parts in warm water with dish soap so that no mold release agent stays on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the contact face flat. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and so is the photo-etched hubcap – put the smallest amount of glue on it and set it with tweezers, so that no white frosting forms on the paint around it. It is a good idea to degrease the photo-etched part and spray it with primer before gluing. Always sand wet and with your airways protected. Paint the tire a dark gray rather than pure black, and separate the hub off with a mask.
This is an add-on set, not a model kit. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
