This vacuum-formed cockpit canopy from the Czech maker Brengun replaces the clear part from a plastic kit of the Japanese Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka in the model 22 version in 1:72 scale. It is cut for one particular Brengun kit. It is not a model: it is one replacement clear part, or usually several pieces in the package.
An injected clear part has a wall a few tenths of a millimeter thick. In reality that corresponds to acrylic several centimeters thick, which shows mainly at the edges and on the frames, which look exaggeratedly heavy. A vacuum-formed canopy is thin-walled and clear, so the cockpit looks light and you really can see into it. That comes in handy especially when you have invested work in the cockpit with photo-etched parts or resin. The second common advantage is the option of cutting the canopy and showing it slid back or hinged open without the cut looking like a thick wall.
The canopy is not cut out of the backing with scissors but traced along the outline with a sharp scalpel and then carefully broken out. Sand the seating edge on abrasive paper laid on glass: hold the part vertically and rotate it until it seats with no gap. Test the fit dry and often, as you can always take more off but not put it back. It is glued with clear white cement for canopies or a thin layer of PVA-based glue, which will not cloud the surface; super glue, by contrast, fogs clear material. Fingerprints are removed with a soft cloth and scratches polished out with compound for plastics. That is exactly why more than one piece is usually supplied in the package: one attempt for practice, the second for the model.
This is an accessory clear part, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
