This set from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi holds figures of soldiers of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in 1:72 scale and is conceived as an accessory for models of vehicles and equipment. It is not a model of a vehicle - the figures are added to a model already built or into a diorama.
What the set is good for
Equipment in 1:72 scale comes across in a display case as an object on its own. As soon as a crew or an operating team is added to it, the viewer immediately grasps the size of the machine and what is going on around it. Figures in this scale measure around two and a half centimeters, so several of them can be placed in one scene without the tableau taking up a large area.
The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force is the ground component of the Japan Self-Defense Forces and uses its own patterns of field uniforms and equipment. Their coloring and cut differ from the American and European armies, which is one of the reasons the figures are hard to replace with other sets - you simply cannot place a soldier in the uniform of another army beside a Japanese vehicle without it being noticed.
Carefully separate the parts from the fret with nippers and dress the sprue nubs with a sharp knife; on small figures a light scrape is enough. Apply a thin coat of primer before painting, otherwise acrylic paints hold badly on smooth plastic. In this scale work with contrast: a base shade for the uniform, a dark wash into the folds and a dry brush on the edges. Two tones are enough for the face, and do not paint the eyes - in 1:72 scale a merely suggested shadow in the eye socket looks better. Glue the figures to the model only after its paint and weathering are finished.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the model of the vehicle are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
