A masking sheet for the deck of a model of the American battleship USS Iowa in 1:700 scale, prepared for the Tamiya 31616 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
On a ship model the deck is usually set apart in color from the hull and from the superstructures, and its edge follows a complex shape full of cut-outs around the turrets, the cranes and the superstructure walls. Tracing such an outline with tape takes more time than the spraying itself, and a slight overlap is enough for it to show on the finished model. In 1:700 scale the whole model is only a few tens of centimeters long, so every inaccuracy is noticed at first glance.
The shapes are cut to the deck of a particular kit, in this case the Tamiya 31616 model. You therefore do not have to shape the mask laboriously around the superstructures; you only seat it in place and press the edges down.
Stick the mask onto a dry, cured and degreased surface, always before spraying. Press the edges down with the tip of a toothpick, above all in the sharp corners at the superstructures, where the film tends to lift. Spray several thin coats instead of one thick one, and paint will then not flow under the edge of the mask. The mask is best taken off shortly after the paint has dried, while it still comes away without resistance.
A masking sheet is supplied. Paints, thinners and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
